STRAUSS: Overture to Die Fledermaus
BARBER: Violin Concerto
MONTGOMERY: Starburst
STRAVINSKY: Firebird (1919)

Renowned opera conductor Christopher Allen conducts an opulent evening of breathtaking virtuosity. John Strauss II’s Overture to Die Fledermaus puts us in a theatrical frame of mind before Francisco Fullana, “frighteningly awesome” (Buffalo News), joins the Omaha Symphony for Barber’s stunning Violin Concerto. Once thought too difficult for most violinists, the concerto is now considered one of the most beloved works of the 20th century, full of passion and beauty. Starburst, by leading contemporary American composer Jessie Montgomery, is stuffed with energy, and a fabulous feature for the Omaha Symphony strings. Finally, Stravinsky’s iconic Firebird takes us back to the ballet, with music so perfectly crafted, one’s imagination fills in every visual.

For the respect and consideration of all Omaha Symphony patrons, children under 5 years of age are prohibited from attending this performance.
