SCHUMANN: Symphony No. 4

Schumann’s final symphony underwent a massive reorchestration; the result is a Romantic era tour-de-force, fittingly using a musical quote borrowed from his friend Mendelssohn and the St. Paul Oratorio: “How blessed are they that have endured.” Piazzolla could empathize with Schumann’s struggle:  not considered a legitimate artist in either classical or tango idioms, he forged his own way and combined them both. The result? His barn-burning Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, performed by Omaha Symphony’s own 2nd Associate Concertmaster, Henry Jenkins.  LESS INFORMATION
