Biennial Event Celebrates The Sound of Music and Supports Omaha
Performing Arts’ Educational and Community Engagement Efforts
Omaha, Neb., (August 11, 2016) – Tony Award®-winning performer Laura Benanti will headline Omaha Performing Arts’ 2016 Broadway Ball — In Celebration of The Sound of Music on Friday, September 9. The stage actress also has five Tony nominations. She just completed her 2016 Tony-nominated role as Amalia Balash in the hit Broadway musical, She Loves Me. Ms. Benanti can now be seen touring the country in her latest show Tales from Soprano Isle featuring songs from her career and life experiences. The Broadway Ball fundraising event will be held at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St.
On television Ms. Benanti can be seen playing the role of Alura Zor-El in the CBS Action Drama, "Supergirl." In 2014 she joined the cast of the ABC’s hit series “Nashville” guest starring as songbird Sadie Stone. She also appeared in recurring roles on CBS’s “The Good Wife” and HBO’s “Nurse Jackie.” Her television works includes her critically acclaimed performance as Elsa Schrader in NBC’s "The Sound of Music LIVE."
Benanti made her Broadway debut as Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC opposite Richard Chamberlain. Other Broadway credits include SWING!, INTO THE WOODS, SOMETHING GOOD, THE WEDDING SINGER, GYPSY and others.
Broadway Ball cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and a performance by Benanti. She will be joined for two songs by sixteen Omaha Performing Arts’ Nebraska High School Theatre Awards members who are part of this program designed to celebrate, support and advocate for high school theatre education. Currently nearly 5,000 students from more than 50 high schools across the state are enrolled in this Omaha Performing Arts program.

The Broadway Ball is a biennial event with proceeds supporting Omaha Performing Arts’ educational and community engagement efforts. The deadline to reserve seats is August 24, 2016.
