WHAT: Omaha Performing Arts Announces Speaker Change for National Geographic Live Series

WHEN: Tuesday, March 8, 7:30 p.m., Holland Performing Arts Center

WHO: Mike Libecki, (Leh-BECK-ee), Cory Richards’ climbing partner, will take Cory’s place at presentation due to a scheduling conflict for Cory. Mike’s presentation, “Untamed Antarctica” is similar to Cory’s and will include many of the same photographs. Libecki climbed Antarctica’s Bertha Tower with Cory Richards and two other colleagues. Tuesday evening he will share a gripping firsthand account of this 10-day expedition in the extreme cold.

ABOUT MIKE LIBECKI:
Explorer Mike Libecki is the consummate adventurer searching for the last truly wild places on the planet. He completed his first solo expedition when he was just six years old and at 40 years old has already completed 50 major expeditions and wants to complete another 50.

Among his other climbs was the first ascent of a 2,000-foot tower in Borneo’s West Kalimantan, a feat that involved wading through mud, leeches and “machete mayhem” to get to the wall. Via snowboard he made a series of first descents in Afghanistan’s avalanche-prone Koh-e Baba mountains and then kite skied over mountain lakes—all while keeping a watchful eye out for Taliban operatives. He’s been to Franz Josef Land, a Russian archipelago just south of the North Pole, where he stand-up paddle boarded between islands and made solo first ascents of unclimbed peaks. “The main components of my trips are remote, untouched, unexplored mystery,” says Libecki, who lives just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
