Omaha Symphony Wilkins Conducts Mahler - Canceled Holland Performing Arts Center

Thomas Wilkins, conductor

MAHLER:  Symphony No. 3

Mahler’s epic ode to Pan and the ushering in of summer is perfect for May in Omaha, opening with one of the most glorious, jaw-dropping brass fanfares in the symphonic repertoire. With features for mezzo-soprano, women and children’s choruses, trombone and a massive ensemble, you’ll see why Mahler was called back out to the podium twelve times at the premiere, and why the final movement has been described as “the most sublime in all symphonic literature.”
