Each year, 7th-12th grade students in Omaha area schools are invited to participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. “Living the Dream” competition. The purpose of this program is to (1) encourage young people to reflect on the principles, values and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other leaders in the historic and ongoing struggle for racial justice and human rights and (2) inspire original writing and other artistic and cultural expression by young people about the ways Dr. King’s vision of a better, more just and inclusive society endures and is relevant to their lives and our society today.
Submissions might take various forms, including, but not limited to, poetry, music, dance, visual arts, or other forms of cultural and artistic expression. The goal of this program is to offer local young people the opportunity to speak in their own unique, authentic voices.
Doors open at 5:00pm.
Show starts at 5:30pm.
The event MC will be Houston Alexander!
The words shared at this event will be powerful and deeply moving. Whether you’re a performer, family member, or friend, support is here for you. Tia Manning, a licensed mental health professional, will be on site to speak with anyone who would like to connect during the event.
