In 2010, Dan Savage’s simple YouTube message – it gets better – reached into the hearts of LGBTQ youth and evolved into a nationwide anti-bullying movement. Presented in partnership with Inclusive Communities, the Gay Men’s Chorus of LA: “it gets better” Tour brings this profound message of hope to Omaha with a moving musical theater piece featuring Omaha’s River City Mixed Chorus. Dan Savage’s three simple words – it gets better – reach into the hearts of LGBTQ youth and inspire them with the message that darkness can give way to a brighter future. This credo has quickly evolved into a massive grass roots campaign going viral with more than 50,000 videos – including President Barack Obama and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles – and amassing more than 50 million combined views.
The “it gets better” Tour takes this profound message one step further, as a Gay Men’s Chorus of LA ensemble travels to communities nationwide to produce a week of educational workshops culminating in a moving musical theater performance. The week highlights anti-bullying, tolerance and acceptance. Omaha’s River City Mixed Chorus will join the cast onstage for the final performance – an exciting and funny story with moments of both pain and pathos, featuring poignant narratives of growing up gay.
This cutting-edge performance brings out the best of the human spirit and dares to tackle issues of tolerance and diversity.
